The Istria Ethnographic Museum organizes a festival dedicated to the ethnographic/anthropologic documentary film. The aims of the festival include: gathering of professionals in the mentioned field and creation of a platform for the development and recognition of film as an instrument for deliberating on, documenting and interpreting cultural phenomena. This year’s partner of the festival is UNESCO. Free admission.

April has arrived in Rovinj and the town is preparing for spring and summer with a variety of
events.
On April 7 – 10 there is a Flower Fair in the town square followed on April 14 with ‘Gastro
tastes of Istria’ Istria is well known for its wine, truffles and olive oil. On April 21 – 24 51st
the traditional professional cycle race goes through Rovinj and at the end of April 22 – 25
the Town Harbour hosts the 18th Rovinj Regatta.

2012 Motovun Film Festival

Preperations are starting for the 2012 Motovun Film Festival. There is an unconfirmed date July 25 – 29 2012. Watch this space for confirmation of this most exciting event held in one of Istria’s (Croatia) most breathtakingly beautiful medieval town, Motovun.

Small town, small productions, and small budgets combine for a grand display of the independent cinematic excellence. The Motovun Film Festival, nestled in idyllic Istria, launched in 1999 to provide a much-needed venue for non-Hollywood cinema. Today the independent spirit lives on during this five-day film marathon, with evening outdoor screenings and daily screenings in local theatres. The Festival program consists of around 70 titles from all over the world, from documentaries to feature films, from shorts to long forms, from guerrilla made films to co-productions. The “From A to A” award recognises outstanding works originating from countries between Austria and Albania. No need to worry if your “production” budget is likewise small because Motovun opens an Eco Camp-ground where film fanatics set up tent cities giving Motovun the unofficial title of Film Woodstock.
